Equipment and Technology for Offshore Field Development

Micro Tunnelling Equipment, Tunnelboring Machines, Shaft Excavation Equipment, HDD Equipment, Auger Boring Machines: more than 850 Herrenknecht Utility Tunnelling Machines are in operation around the world constructing or laying water and wastewater systems, gas and oil pipelines, as well as conduits for electricity and telecommunications. Trenchless tunnelling technology offers a range of advantages compared to conventional construction procedures: transport, business and the environment remain mostly undisturbed when Micromachines, HDD rigs or shaft sinking equipment are being used. Innovations such as Direct Pipe® set new standards in the semi-trenchless installation. The new technology E-Power Pipe® allows the secure and quick installation of underground cable protection pipes with smaller diameters and long advance lengths. Innovative HDD tools simplify pipeline construction operations at key sections. The Herrenknecht product portfolio is completed by a broad range of equipment for the areas of mining and exploration.

Direct Pipe®

Direct Pipe® is a one-step installation method for underground crossings in pipeline construction. A Pipe Thruster is used to push a prefabricated pipeline from a launch pit through the ground to the target point. The soil is excavated at the face by a tunnel boring machine.

E-Power Pipe

The Herrenknecht E-Power Pipe method is used for the trenchless installation of small diameter product pipes at shallow depths. Over long distances of up to two kilometers, both pressure-resistant and non-pressure-resistant product pipes are installed quickly, reliably and precisely. The two-stage process integrates aspects of the proven Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) technology and pipe jacking (microtunnelling). Even with the most diverse project requirements, E-Power Pipe offers possibilities of mechanized installing near-surface protective pipes and pipelines – with extremely minimal interventions in the landscape.

The broad spectrum of applications ranges from the installation of cable protection pipes or underground cables for the expansion of the power grid to pipelines for gas supply, district heating or the transport of hydrogen.

HDD Rig

With horizontal directional drilling rigs from Herrenknecht, pipelines and protective pipes can be installed under rivers and infrastructures quickly, cost-effectively and with minimal impact on the environment. Examples of pipeline applications include oil and gas, hydrogen and CO2, water and sewage, district heating, high-voltage power lines, cable bundles and much more.

AVN machine

Herrenknecht AVN machines (AVN is short for the German for Automatic Tunnelling Machine Wet) are slurry pressure shields, also known as slurry machines. Equipped with a cone crusher, AVN machines really come into their own in non-accessible tunnel diameters and ensure safe tunnelling. The slurry support of the tunnel face enables AVN machines to be used in all types of ground: from silt and clay to non-cohesive soils and gravel through to rock, both in pipe jacking and segmental lining.
